01SJ-Interesting..and Free!

Yes, I’ve done it! I have found an event that starts next week. And I thought I would be bored this summer. Starting next week, Jun 4-8, San Jose will host its second biennial 01SJ-A Global Festival of Art on the Edge. For 4 days, downtown San Jose will be home to apparently a transformative and provocative art festival with exhibits, food, and music. And the best part of all is that some of the events are free. Don’t you just love it when I find you awesome things that don’t require money? Now there’s no excuse for you not to go and get cultured. But this one sound pretty interesting.

Here are some key events:

Some highlights and not-to-miss events:

June 4 – Opening Ceremony / Progressive Party – 7:30 pm Opening Ceremony, Circle of Palms (outside of the San Jose Museum of Art); 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm Superlight on view at the San Jose Museum of Art; 9 pm Unveiling of Incursion, Walsh Rotunda Projection, San Jose City Hall Rotunda; 9:20 pm Portal, Wormhole, Flythrough, San Jose State University/MLK Library (campus-side); 9:30 pm Artist Reception sponsored by Creative Capital, Hotel Montgomery. Don’t miss this festival within a festival as SOFA arts organizations collaborate to create a huge block party (the biggest South First Friday ever) that celebrates unique and emerging arts movements ranging from contemporary music, street performances, Do-It-Yourself and interactive, on-the-edge art installations. More than 50 artists and bands will participate throughout the evening. Wine coffee and light snacks will be available. 6 pm-midnight. SoFA district, South First Street between San Carlos and East Reed streets. Free.

June 7 – Target Family Day in the Park – a family-oriented day of music and interactive arts exhibits will be part of the exciting atmosphere in Plaza de Cesar Chavez. Wine, beverages, hot dogs and ice cream will be available in this area. Five bands play on the main stage from 2- 10 pm; 15 interactive activities and classes will also occur inside the park. 2-10 pm. Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Market and San Carlos streets. Free.

June 7 – 01SJ Adobe Global Youth Voices Reception – A free public reception to celebrate the achievements of youth artists presented in the 01SJ Adobe Global Youth Voices project. The Tech Museum of Innovation, New Venture Hall, 201 S. Market St. RSVP to info@zero1.org. 8 pm performance follows the reception with live video projection by Palmeda Youth artist group from Nottingham, England.

Tweet Me

Alright, I want everyone to follow me on Twitter. It’s this new social media site, that is actually pretty addicting. But since I’m sort of on vacay, and I can’t always post something to make you laugh, I thought this would be a good way for you to see what I’m up to when I’m not working on the summer guide. So click here and love me.
