01SJ-Interesting..and Free!

Yes, I’ve done it! I have found an event that starts next week. And I thought I would be bored this summer. Starting next week, Jun 4-8, San Jose will host its second biennial 01SJ-A Global Festival of Art on the Edge. For 4 days, downtown San Jose will be home to apparently a transformative and provocative art festival with exhibits, food, and music. And the best part of all is that some of the events are free. Don’t you just love it when I find you awesome things that don’t require money? Now there’s no excuse for you not to go and get cultured. But this one sound pretty interesting.

Here are some key events:

Some highlights and not-to-miss events:

June 4 – Opening Ceremony / Progressive Party – 7:30 pm Opening Ceremony, Circle of Palms (outside of the San Jose Museum of Art); 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm Superlight on view at the San Jose Museum of Art; 9 pm Unveiling of Incursion, Walsh Rotunda Projection, San Jose City Hall Rotunda; 9:20 pm Portal, Wormhole, Flythrough, San Jose State University/MLK Library (campus-side); 9:30 pm Artist Reception sponsored by Creative Capital, Hotel Montgomery. Santa Clara St. Free. www.commonwealthclub.org and www.1stACT.org

June 6 – SubZero Festival – The coolest thing in San Jose. Don’t miss this festival within a festival as SOFA arts organizations collaborate to create a huge block party (the biggest South First Friday ever) that celebrates unique and emerging arts movements ranging from contemporary music, street performances, Do-It-Yourself and interactive, on-the-edge art installations. More than 50 artists and bands will participate throughout the evening. Wine coffee and light snacks will be available. 6 pm-midnight. SoFA district, South First Street between San Carlos and East Reed streets. Free.

June 7 – Target Family Day in the Park – a family-oriented day of music and interactive arts exhibits will be part of the exciting atmosphere in Plaza de Cesar Chavez. Wine, beverages, hot dogs and ice cream will be available in this area. Five bands play on the main stage from 2- 10 pm; 15 interactive activities and classes will also occur inside the park. 2-10 pm. Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Market and San Carlos streets. Free.

June 7 – 01SJ Adobe Global Youth Voices Reception – A free public reception to celebrate the achievements of youth artists presented in the 01SJ Adobe Global Youth Voices project. This project funded 18 different international artists, art collectives, and established non-profit arts organizations and institutions to support the creation of new work by young digital artists. 6-8 pm. The Tech Museum of Innovation, New Venture Hall, 201 S. Market St. RSVP to info@zero1.org. 8 pm performance follows the reception with live video projection by Palmeda Youth artist group from Nottingham, England.

Tweet Me

Alright, I want everyone to follow me on Twitter. It’s this new social media site, that is actually pretty addicting. But since I’m sort of on vacay, and I can’t always post something to make you laugh, I thought this would be a good way for you to see what I’m up to when I’m not working on the summer guide. So click here and love me.

Exclusive Wednesday night post

I made a new drink.  I don’t even care if anyone else has made it, but I’ve made it.  Naturally, I call it the Darnitini.  Malibu Rum (any flavor) and Andre’s champagne.  Yes, Andre’s is cheap, but honestly, I’m trying to help you guys save money.  The night is young.  I’ll probably come up with more drinks soon.  Alright.  Congrats to everyone who completed their finals.  You are all champs in my book.  Now its time to go get a little….WASTED. *muah*

Urban Wednesdays…the last one of the semester

Pimp:

1)something badass or new and fresh.
2)a male who uses females to make money to buy more ho’s and in turn blows that money on gold lining for his shoelaces.

3) Plus he owns a car like the pimp mobile up above from Mercedes.

Oh you best enjoy your day.  Last day of finals!  Woohoo!  Hope everyone has a fun and safe summer.  Darny’s summer guide will be up tomorrow.  Enjoy!

I know we’re all still trying to make it through the last two days of finals.  Curse those of you who are already done.  You know, freshmen are ridiculous.  I went to the on campus market last night, and low and behold, there were nothing but freshman running around, acting stupid, dumb, and hyphy.  When asked why they were out and not inside studying, the simply said “Because I’m drunk.”  When asked if they were done with their finals, they simply said, “I have my final tomorrow.”  Assholes.  Won’t be able to get away with stuff like that for much longer.

Anyways.  To the important stuff.  Since we’re still knee deep in finals season, I’m sure we’re all ordering useless amounts of pizza to get through finals.  Here’s some fun ways to order a pizza:

1. If using a touch-tone, press random numbers while ordering.  Ask the
person taking the order to stop doing that.

2. Make up a charge-card name.  Ask if they accept it.

3. Use CB lingo where applicable.

4. Order a Big Mac Extra Value Meal.

5. Terminate the call with, “Remember, we never had this conversation.”

6. Tell the order taker a rival pizza  place is on the other line and
you’re going with the lowest bidder.

7. Give them your address, exclaim “Oh, just surprise me!” and hang up.

8. Answer their questions with questions.

9. In your breathiest voice, tell them to cut the crap about nutrition
and ask if they have something outlandishly sinful.

10. Use these bonus words in the conversation:

ROBUST
FREE-SPIRITED
COST-EFFICIENT
UKRAINIAN
PUCE.

Good luck on finals.  Enjoy.

Last Monday of the semester…

Yes, ’tis the last Monday of the semester both for school and the Daily.  It was one interesting experience for all.  I know everyone is gearing up for finals, and again, good luck.  Go get them A’s or barely earned C’s.  We’ve all been re-learning, or learning information for the first time, and let me just tell you, you get to that point where you don’t want to learn anything else.  Push through!  You only have a few more days (some of you at least) and then it’ll finally be summer!

If you’re wondering if the Daily is going to be around this summer, let me just tell you that it’s not.  Well, at least it won’t really be the Daily.  For those of you who are new comers, the Daily goes on a little vacay with the rest of us, A.K.A. I’m too lazy to do it.  However, this summer is going to be magical.  I am providing you with a little bit of culture.  I have mapped out my entire summer, and I will be going to festivals, including the exciting Beer Festival in Monterey, Jazz festivals, Gay and Lesbian parades/festivals, movies, concerts, and just being silly and drunk.  It’s going to be awesome.  Hopefully by the end of today or tomorrow I will have the Daily’s Summer Guide up and running to let everyone know what’s going on in the bay area and what I’ll be up to.  Consider it a personal project of mine.  But enough about the future, here’s the Daily for today:
